What is YOUR diagnosis?

This large breed 1 year old male dog came to our office with a history of vomiting in the past 24 hours. As in many cases like this, we took a radiograph (x-ray) to look for something he might have eaten that he should not have. Here is our radiograph from Monday.

This is the same dog on the same day with him laying on his back.

Here is the same dog on Tuesday, no more vomiting. The opacity that looked like a quarter is gone. The owner watched his stool and nothing metallic had come through. Mystery?

Mystery solved. Pepto Bismol tablets don't dissolve when dogs swallow them whole. You can give your dog Pepto Bismol, but please give the liquid. AND PLEASE ALWAYS CALL US BEFORE you give your dog medications, even those you take yourself. Many drugs we take routinely like aspirin, tylenol and ibuprofen can be toxic to dogs and cats.
